2001 Vanzandt JBV-R2/FL Jaco Pastorius Tribute | Made in Japan by PGM
TAX FREE OUTSIDE OF TEXAS, if you resides outside of the state of Texas, we will not collect sale tax on this instrument.
For sale is this stunning 2001 Vanzandt JBV-R2/FL limited production model built to pay tribute to Jaco Pastorius. Ship from Texas, US.
Built by PGM, the workshop founded in 1978 by the legendary Kazuhiko Nyui (the visionary behind Moon), this bass represents a "no-expense-spared" approach to luthiery. Produced for a window of only one to two year(s), it is a remarkable piece of instrument. Once you've played a PGM-built Vanzandt, standard Fenders Custom Shops often start to feel a bit "plain" in comparison.
The body features premium, hand-selected alder finished in an ultra-thin, pre-CBS style nitrocellulose lacquer. Unlike modern reissues, the patina on this instrument is 100% authentic, the result of a 20-year journey rather than an artificial relic process. The fretless neck is made of lightly flamed Japanese maple bounded to a slap piece of 'Jacaranda' or Japanese word for Brazilian rosewood and its substitute, finished with a layer of clear epoxy and the fret slots are filled with wood putty to capture the unique quality of the original 'Bass of Doom'. Despite its age, the bass remains in immaculate condition. The fit, finish, and resonance offer a level of "soul" and "mojo" that off-the-shelf Custom Shop models simply cannot replicate; it truly stands in a class with Masterbuilt instruments.
Hand-wound Alnico V pickups made right here in Texas by Van Zant pickups. CTS pots and vintage correct ceramic capacitors. Original reversed gear vintage style tuning pegs and threaded bridge saddles with the brass ground wire. This is a Jazz bass that can only be described as a 'masterpiece of Japanese luthiery'.
